WCCC Wednesday Night at The Winner’s Circle, presented by Route 1 Vapors, saw the WCCC return home, with our first Wednesday night in the great outdoors under the lights!
Tonight was a lesson in winning when it counts, with Corey Rabeau & Katy Singlar overcoming a rather pedestrian round robin performance to become invincible in the playoffs, culminating in a hard-fought 21-16 decision over Eric Kenney & Tyler Callahan in the finals. It was not an easy path to victory, as Rabeau & Singlar had to overcome three of the four group winners to claim gold. The finals were an evenly matched affair, with neither team going up by more than 5 points. Callahan claimed 2 points off Rabeau to take a 16-12 lead and seemed poised for victory, but a 10-5 round in favor of Singlar (with the final bag hanging but not banging for the fourbagger) saw the lead swing her way, and then a 10-6 round for Rabeau over Kenney was the finisher.
The third place game saw Dominic Lander take the final podium spot for the second week in a row, this time with Brian Johnson. Lander & Johnson dropped 4 points in the first round to Tom O’Hara & Jamie Paquette before handing out a straight beating in a 21-5 thrashing. Johnson now has a WCCC-leading 4 third place finishes in 2022.
The bronze medalists were the dominant forces in PPR, with Brian Johnson leading the way with an 8.23, and Dominic Lander being dead even with Shane Bieber in a tie for 2nd with a 7.67. Speaking of dead even ties between Lander & Bieber, they tied for the night’s lead in fourbaggers with 4, the cool conditions and outdoor venue no doubt contributing to a lower fourbagger count.
WCCC Presidenf Edju Martin got the call for airmail, and simply said “rollover” into the mic before toeing the line. Four closer-than-expected bags later, the self-fulfilling prophecy was complete, and $1979 rolls over to next week.
We would like to thank our sponsors that make it all happen!
We’ll see you next week!
