The dawn of February meant a night of Switcholio at WCCC Wednesday Night at The Brook, presented by Route 1 Vapors.  For the first time, Dominic Lander did not make the podium (or the playoffs, for that matter), but the finals still had Slim Reaper representation in the form of Keegan Leary, who teamed with Rich Bushway to record a sweep over Wayne McCarthy & Chris Cole.

Game 1 was a tale of two runs, as after an opening wash Leary & Bushway dominated the next seven rounds, building what seemed to be a safe 18-0 lead.  However, a deuce by McCarthy was followed by one by Cole, which snowballed into a 14-0 run of their own to make it 18-14 after thirteen rounds.  A wash set up the fifteenth round, where Bushway ground out a 3 to squeak over the line of a 21-14 win.

Game 2 proved to be the cornhole equivalent of a gang beating in a back alley, as Leary & Bushway steamrolled to victory in a meager six rounds, scoring in five rounds and washing the other en route to the 21-0 destruction that finished off the night.  Back-to-back fourbaggers turned a 6-0 lead into 17-0 in the blink of an eye, and it was all academic from there.

The 3rd place game again followed the pattern of the finals, this time with John Mahoney & Brian Kelly claiming the final podium spot with a 21-2 drubbing of Steve Marshall & Shannon Titcomb.  This was a nine round affair where it was 6-0 after one round, 13-0 after four, and it was a cruise in on from there.

A hotly contested PPR race was won by Keegan Leary with his 8.69, slightly outpacing John Mahoney’s 8.52.  Scott Pelletier was .05 ahead of 4th with his 8.43.  Leary hit the nightly triple crown, adding the fourbagger lead to his tournament and PPR top spots with a total of 9.

Airmail, which coming into this night had seen 1 of 16 bags hit for the year, grew to $5562, the third biggest pot in WCCC history.  Robert “Boobs” Ortega, whose last attempt in January 2022 yielded 2 bags for over $1100 (albeit on the box pre-pipe), got the call to the line.  Two bags were agoninzingly close to going in, but none found the mark, rolling over the entire $5562.  Next week will almost certainly feature the 2nd biggest pot ever and could potentially threaten the record.

We would like to thank our sponsors that make it all happen!
